Watermelon Citrullus lanatus, an annual plant in the Cucurbitaceae family. Its branches may extend 3-4 m on the surface of the ground. Although roots may descend quite deep under irrigation free cultivation conditions, when irrigated cultivation is performed, the fibrous roots are aggregated mostly at a depth of 40-50 cm. The large ball-shaped fruits are sweet and watery. Watermelon cultivation spread onto quite a large area globally and in Turkey. 25% of watermelons in the world are grown in Turkey.
