LEEK

Leek is a plant that grows any season of the year and is biannual, generally grown for its leaves. It is consumed cold and raw in some countries, typically in salads, hamburgers, tacos and many other dishes. Including China, leeks are cooked and the stem is as important as the leaves. The leek has a short initial stem, but it widens and branches when it blossoms and many flowerheads resembling dandelions sprout but are shorter. This is the rapid growth and seeding phase. When cultivated for eating, harvesting is done before this phase takes place.
