Moro oranges look similar to an orange from the outside but have deep red colored fruit and juice. Moro oranges are nearly seedless and are medium to large in size. The rind is orange kissed with red blush and has a leathery texture, pebbled with prominent oil glands.
Moro blood oranges have a slightly sweat, floral fragrance and a sweet-tart taste with notes of cherries and berries. Their color is due to a pigment called anthocyanin, not found usually in citrus but common in other red fruits and flowers. Moro blood oranges are the most common orange variety used by chefs for their dark hues and sweet-tart flavor used to accent savory dishes.
